OPENING THOUGHT

"I hear and forget.

I see and I remember.

I do and I understand.”

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Learning research shows us that the more you involve listeners in your presentations, the higher the learner retention rate will be. In order to  increase the amount of information that the listeners are likely to remember from your presentation, use  involvement techniques as much as you can. These can include: large and small group discussions, question periods, demonstrations or role plays and learning exercises in the form of purposeful, content-driven games and activities.

Bottom line - you want the listeners to remember most of what you shared with them!

pRESENTATIONS WITH IMPACT

Next time you're preparing to give a presentation - whether it is to 5 or 500 people and whether it is to be 10 minutes or 3 days in length...keep the following tips in mind:

bullet

Prepare a plan and then stick to it!

bullet

Anticipate the reactions of your audience and prepare potential responses

bullet

Speak clearly - practice tough words in advance

bullet

Avoid “filler words” (um, ah, like, so...) - they don't add value and take away precious thinking time from your listeners

bullet

Minimize distractions - like too many hand movements or adjusting your glasses constantly

bullet

Use relevant stories that add value and reinforce your message

bullet

Dress professionally - one step above what you expect your audience to wear

bullet

Use eye contact - scan your audience

bullet

Use visual tools like projected slides and handouts

bullet

Involve your audience as much as you can
